Caritas
Caritas was formed in Germany in 1897, but it wasn't until 1964 that an Australian branch was established. The Australian branch was called the Catholic Overseas Relief Committee, or CORC, until 1996 when it changed to Caritas Australia. 'Caritas' means love and compassion. Caritas runs projects such as Caritas K's. Caritas K's is where you walk around a track or oval and you have people sponsor you, hence raising money. The idea of the sponsorship is that the sponsors pay per kilometre (hence the name Caritas K's). Sponsors could be friends, family, or anyone who knows about Caritas K's and wants to make a difference. This is just an example of one of the many projects that caritas runs. Another, more mainstream charity project is project compassion: a simple donate money to the poor project.
